Leslie is a resident of Etowah with a dedicated interest in local history and heritage, and a member/volunteer with the Henderson County Genealogical & Historical Society.

Leslie's paternal 'Banks' family roots are in Arapahoe, coastal North Carolina, the Pamlico Sound on the Neuse River.  She and husband John retired to Etowah in 2010.

One day she walked into the Etowah Valley Hardware store (closed in 2015, today JZM Auto) and was inspired by a collection of historical photos on the corner wall . . . images that begin to tell the story of Etowah.  A local history group was formed and met for several years at the Library.  The website was created as well as a number of community displays and a 2019 heritage day celebration.  The group is not active at this time.
